Ubuntu Core

Ubuntu Core is a sub-set of Ubuntu technologies ideally suited for the next generation of embedded devices where Internet connectivity is key. It takes advantage of the extensive hardware, architecture and component certification work done by Canonical so manufacturers can build great experiences for non-PC-based technologies such as set-top boxes, in-vehicle infotainment systems and digital devices for the home.

Performance Improvements

Performance improvements are not always easy to make on embedded platforms. Our experience involves prolonging battery times, reducing memory foot prints and profiling the stack or specific areas of a platform to find improvements for our customers.

Multitouch

Multitouch is more and more becoming normal in devices with screen use. This is an area which we've help pioneer and been involved in vertically from kernel driver development to applications making use of the technology itself.

Networking

Lanedo has worked with several businesses over the years to help enable networking for devices on Linux. More recently Lanedo has been helping Google develop 4G/LTE support through NetworkManager/ModemManager.

Kernel Drivers

When new devices emerge, there is often a requirement for Linux support. Lanedo has expertise developing kernel drivers to enable new hardware helping customers reach the market more quickly. We can also help with kernel modifications for your platform.

Search Engine / Metadata / Storage

For a good number of years, Lanedo maintained the Tracker project for Nokia. This provides a search engine and metadata storage solution for embedded devices which don't have the resource often needed by other larger databases. We've also used our experience to help Mozilla improve their code search tool DXR.

Graphics Layer

There are times when you want to optimise widgets or drawing layers to give you those 60 frames a second for a silky look and feel. Lanedo has vertically supported everything from the window managers on OS X, Linux and Windows to applications which have customized widgets (or miss-use toolkits).

Architecture / Infrastructure

There are cases where you want to optimise the architecture of a platform, for example, change the way a component like systemd starts services or exclude particular packages from your platform, perhaps even use a customized version of the platform's IPC (like DBus). This is where Lanedo can help and we can even help backfold changes to upstream where they make sense.

Application Development

Applications can be quite important for your platform. Lanedo has experience developing applications for over a decade, ranging from the GIMP to small embedded applications for phones. Should you need a custom application, a community application or even an ISV application, we can help.

History

Lanedo has proudly sponsored events over the years which promote the communities and technologies used in the Ubuntu Core stack. Our experience began with Maemo back in 2005. Since then we have seen many technologies come and go over the years and we've been there to follow the improvements over the years. Being part of these communities allows us to provide services around Ubuntu Core and generally Linux based embedded platforms.
